We are committed to good taste, we develop new fruit cultivars, both for commercial fruit growing and for hobby enthusiasts. After all, as different as they are, all of our newly conceived varieties have one important thing in common: they offer a new taste experience that meets even the highest demands – both in terms of the fruit and the tree itself. This is the only way to keep the use of plant protective agents to a minimum over the long term or even completely refrain from it.
THE LATEST, IN-DEPTH FINDINGS ON INNOVATIVE CULTIVARS
When it comes to the acquisition and marketing of new cultivars, we work closely with renowned institutions in Germany and beyond, which specialise in cultivation work. We always keep track of current progress and actively influence cultivation objectives and developments.
Before we adopt a new variety into our assortment, it has to pass through numerous tests. Trees from potential "candidates" are planted in numerous locations with a wide range of climactic conditions and are monitored closely over several years. At the same time, we work closely both with commercial fruit growers as well as training and research institutes – from northern Germany down to its southern tip and beyond. On the basis of scientific studies, years of monitoring growth behaviour and health as well as numerous taste tests by professionals and consumers, we then decide for or against a variety – in many cases, it takes over 20 years in order for a variety to be marketed.
Our assortment focuses on pomaceous and pitted fruit varieties as well as a selection of berryfruits. Columnar, dwarf and ornamental fruit is a special segment of our cultivation work. We offer performance varieties with outstanding, proven characteristics to professional and private growers. Characteristics, which not only keep pace with conventional standard varieties, but often outperform them. Thanks to our continual cultivation success, many of the varieties we grow intensively offer a high packout as well as substantial cost savings by minimising the use of plant protective agents as well as easy care of the trees. Hobby gardeners can also expect a rich harvest of ARTEVOS varieties.
